How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Written for: Someone planning works who needs to know how long the room is out of use.

For a typical London bathroom, expect 16–20 working days on site. Here is where the days go.

  • Days 1–2 — strip-out, sub-floor checks, making good.
  • Days 3–6 — first fix: plumbing and electrics to the new layout.
  • Days 5–7 — tanking and cure; forming falls if it is a wet room.
  • Days 7–13 — setting out and tiling walls and floor.
  • Days 13–17 — second fix: bath, basin, WC, screen, brassware.
  • Final days — grout, silicone, seal, clean, snag walk-through.

What makes it longer

Moving the WC or soil pipe, wet-room falls, large-format or natural stone tile, pattern work, and substrate surprises like damp or movement. Waiting on client-supplied materials is the avoidable one — the schedule tells you when things need to be on site.

You get an indicative day-by-day schedule with the quote and a photo update every evening once we start.
