After the job
Looking after the finish
A tiled room is low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. A few habits keep it looking like the day we handed over.
The first two weeks
- Grout keeps curing for about 7 days. Avoid heavy cleaning or flooding the floor in that time.
- If we sealed natural stone, let it settle for 48 hours before it gets wet.
- Silicone skins in a few hours but reaches full strength over a couple of days — go easy on the shower door.
- Ventilate. Run the extractor and open a window after showers, especially at first.
Cleaning, day to day
- Porcelain and ceramic: warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Nothing acidic, nothing abrasive.
- Natural stone and marble: pH-neutral only. Acids (limescale removers, vinegar, some bathroom sprays) etch the surface.
- Grout: a soft brush and a pH-neutral cleaner. Skip the wire brush and the bleach gel — they wear it down.
- Squeegee the shower walls after use. It is the single best thing for keeping glass and tile clear.
Every few months
- Check the silicone at the bath, tray and worktop joints. If it lifts or darkens, tell us.
- Re-seal natural stone floors and worktops as the sealer manufacturer recommends — usually once or twice a year.
- Clear the shower waste and, in a wet room, lift and rinse the linear drain grate.
Call us back if
- A tile sounds hollow or lifts.
- Grout cracks along a line rather than in one spot.
- You see a damp patch on a ceiling or wall below a wet area.
- Silicone fails or lifts — that is a callout, not a DIY job.
